Although established in the 1960’s, Back Bay Veterinary Hospital became a fixture of Newport Beach in 1978 when Dr. George Katcherian, an Armenian immigrant from Cairo, Egypt, bought the practice. Since 1978, Back Bay’s mission has been to provide the most caring service possible to patients, guests and their human friends through a team of dedicated professionals. Dr. K (as he’s often called) has not only grown one of Newport Beach’s most successful veterinary hospitals but has also become one of Southern California’s most sought after canine orthopedic surgeons, often miraculously healing leg, knee, and hip injuries for all types of dogs. He also performs an array of smaller surgeries covering spay and neuters, tumor removal, amputations, and more.
Dr. Nabil Fanous has been a fixture of Back Bay Veterinary Hospital for over fifteen years. He has not only studied veterinary medicine at Cairo University in Egypt and the University of Iowa, but he also received his Masters in Pharmacology. Dr. Fanous’ interests lie in internal medicine and stem cell treatment for animals, especially those suffering from arthritis. An active member of the organization Animal Advocates, he is known for his passion for veterinary medicine and is committed to fostering strong, caring relationships with his clients and their furry companions. On his free time, he enjoys watching soccer and tennis as well as spending time with his cat, Tony. He has also been an avid, and very talented, chess player most of his life.
Dr. Hernandez graduated in 2002 from University Autonomous of Queretaro, Mexico. After practicing for a few years, she immigrated to the United States where she completed an internship in Long Beach, California with a special interest in internal medicine and soft tissue surgery until she obtained her California veterinary license. Dr. Hernandez loves outdoor activities, particularly hiking and has a Maine Coon kitty cat named Mandush that she rescued. Dr. Hernandez joined our Back Bay team in November, 2018.
